The First Global Skateboarding Dream Team | Skating Changed Forever | 25 Years of Menikmati
The new documentary, “The First Skateboarding Global Dream Team | 25 Years of e’S Menikmati,” hosted by pro skater Torey Pudwill, takes us back to 1999 to relive the making of e’S Shoes’ iconic video Menikmati. With skateboarding exploding after Tony Hawk’s 900 and the rise of THPS, Sole Tech set out to create a groundbreaking video for the newer brand e’S - and delivered a masterpiece.
Directed by French Fred, Menikmati became a cultural milestone. Its filming, editing, music, travel and legendary RED VHS aesthetic helped redefine skate videos. The team hit iconic spots like El Toro, Hollywood High, Macba and Wilshire, pushing a new global standard that’s still chased today.
Featuring Eric Koston, Tom Penny, Bob Burnquist, Ronnie Creager, Rick McCrank - and breakout parts from Rodrigo TX and Arto Saari - the video launched careers and showcased one of skateboarding’s first truly international teams.
The documentary digs into each rider’s story, from Arto’s rise out of Finland to Rodrigo TX getting a surprise full part, to Koston battling pressure before dropping one of the most legendary enders ever. French Fred also breaks down the creation of the now-classic “rolling long lens” shot that changed skate filming forever.
